DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before answering the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.

This relatively innocuous mistake could be proof - a cigarette smoking weapon per se - that, wiki.vst.hs-furtwangen.de yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been claimed by OpenAI, and that when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its reality.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not and that it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant produced exclusively by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, but in your rather prolonged response to me, you, DeepSeek, made multiple recommendations to yourself as ChatGPT. I've included some screenshots listed below as proof:

As you can see, after trying to recognize if I was talking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek responds, "If it has to do with the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any circumstances? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to discuss? Perhaps, however in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared rather clear about its identity.

I got to this line of query, by the way, due to the fact that I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The response was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested an easy yes or no answer, it told me, "It's not possible to offer an easy yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too intricate a concept to apply because method to language designs. They have different strengths and weaknesses."

I can't say I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek's response was quite comparable, except it was not necessarily talking about itself.

This doesn't accumulate

I believe I have actually been clear about my DeepSeek apprehension. Everyone says it's the most powerful and inexpensively trained AI ever (everybody other than Alibaba), but I do not know if that's real. To be reasonable, there's a remarkable amount of information on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to show that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not believe they reveal how these models were trained. In any case, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its designs on OpenAI or anyone else's large language designs - or at least I didn't up until today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is increasingly a mystery covered inside a quandary. There is some agreement on the truth that DeepSeek showed up more completely formed and in less time than most other designs, consisting of Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech community trust DeepSeek's apps on smart devices due to the fact that there is no way to know if China is taking a look at all that timely data. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has actually developed are excellent, and some, including Microsoft, are already planning to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was developed based on cutting-edge ChatGPT models, iuridictum.pecina.cz however in recent months, there have been some concerns about if the deep financial collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General Intelligence age.

So what if Microsoft starts using DeepSeek, which is possibly just another offshoot of its existing if not future, friend OpenAI?

The entire thing sounds like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek relatively has an identity crisis.
